I started with 25mg for two months. This takes me to Spring 2012. I'm glad you were not on it long. I had so little confidence with my skin that I didn't even notice the changes until my mom bought it up.
Thats why I got back on this website; to read (again) the reviews of Accutane because I am afraid of the side affects) BUT I am so sick of having to think about my skin every day. I stopped both a month ago and no change so far. I had bad anxiety over it too and shed many tears, but coming to this forum makes me feel better. Devastating experience. My hair has continued to fall over last 1 year and I have seen my hair turn to brittle dry and wispy . I have a new guy I'm seeing and I was so embarrassed to be around him. I don't understand how those against animal testing can then use stuff with animal products!Wow! Once I notice either new hair growth or when the shedding slowsI will definitely let you know! I noticed some small bumps on my chest and stomach that are not itchy like hives, but they have a red appearance similar to hives. I have been on Spiro for probably close to 2 years. Out of all things, I was most confident about my hair. I used to have a full healthy crown of hair that was Low maintenance. From reading chemo boards, this is common in hair loss AND growth, so I really hope it's the latter. The bad burning and red pimple things (folliculitis) is gone, but now I just have occasional soreness. I also blame the spiro for a few other medical things that happened to me after that. I found this post in The middle of July and quit taking aldactone immediately. I have noticed that the shedding is some better but still not normal. My acne has improved slightly, but I still have new pimples. I am on a very low dosage and could have probably cleared more quickly if it were higher, but my blood pressure was already borderline low and I prefer to have fewer symptoms. I talk to the dermatologist and my Primary Care doctor and they all say it's not the Spiro. I'm also going to call my derm to see whether I should still move up to 100 mg, but I'm optimistic that staying on 50 mg will help since I'm beginning to see an improvement.End of Week 4: I have noticed an improvement in my back acne, but it is not clear yet. Even today I woke up with 3 new ones and I am taking 125 mg. Don't worry, you won't go bald, even though you may think so. I'm one month off spiro and still shedding:(I just want to thank you for posting all of this! The steroid was stopped quickly due to bad side effects and I just waited to see what spironolactone would do. (the real reason I had skipped my period!) I hear that Biotin or Viviscal helps with regrowth.I also noticed my hair got extremly dry and brittle!! No weight loss. Got diagnosed with Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia. He said call your doctor and have him prescribe you something else for edema.. One other thing i also noticed and was told by several people how well my skin looked especially my face.. It took a good year to get my hair growing in the right cycles again. The fall of 2017 all hell broke loose and my skin got horrible again; the worst it has EVER been. I hope that means my hair is returning to its normal scalp density. Not only did my hair shed, what I had broke off to about 3" due to the extreme dryness that the Spiro caused. However, my breakouts were much worse than anything I had experienced before. Ive been on spironolactone for about 4 months now. I stopped taking spiro in August 2016. I went almost 8 months with no period. All my previous experiences have been doctors telling me to use harsh topicals and antibiotics that never worked for my skin. Am due the results of my first set of bloods next week so I will update again then. I would give 5 stars, but I have just entered the "clearing" phase, so I want to make sure this continues and I will update later. I thought mine was an initial breakout and I tried to perservere, but it was pretty much non-stop for me–each day, bringing one or two new, deep ones. Is that still the case?My hair loss is slowing a lot but it's been about a year since the shedding started and I've haven't experienced any regrowth at all :(.Sorry, didn't get a notification.
Either way, you guys are not the only ones experiencing this effect; and most doctors are baffled as to why it happens- even my world renown endocrinologist doesn’t understand the mechanism. My hair are super fragile right now .I am 39 and been on and off Spiro 100mg daily for about 1 year now and have noticed significant hair loss. Am hoping the reduction in dosage will make it more tolerable.End of week 2 - reducing the dosage thankfully sorted the diarrhea problem! Estroblock had this effect on me, too, but I didn’t have a honeymoon period with it, as you had for the 3 months. I’m so embarrassed to say that I’ve gone days without washing my face. Can't yet tell if my face has improved much.I'm 44 and have suffered from cystic acne on and off for the last 10 years. Then she bumped me up to 50mg for a month. She asked me if this was typical for me. If you want to stay on it, I had good luck using Cerave Hydrating Face cleanser with it (time release emollient) to keep my face from drying out.So I just wanted to share my experience with spiro and The results of the biopsy showed chronic telogen effluvium and androgenic alopecia.
