The depressive phase of bipolar disorder is increasingly recognized as the main driver of treatment resistance, functional disability, and a strong predictor of suicidality and suicide. We included data from armodafinil patients who received a similar dose (150 mg) and most of the included trials had a duration of 6 to 8 weeks, which provides us with efficacy and safety information for the acute depressive phase. We should avoid assuming that a statistical benefit of one treatment for bipolar depression as a diagnostic entity is relevant for every patient with this heterogeneous condition.
