I have mild-ish cystic acne along my chin and jaw that is very persistent. I also like to be upfront with the fact that I have hormonal acne that didn't respond to treatment and had been switching from amoxicillin to minocycline for years plus all the topicals. After reading up on all the research, I started out my 40mg pill every other day for the first week, and when I didn't notice any side effects from that, I increased to once a day. or were!! Reaaaaally low dose. So I do feel that I would have definitely noticed an initial breakout. After 10 years of mild acne I started the treatment this week (yay) and the doctor gave me a really really low dose in which i would be taking 20 mg Per Week for a month, next month 40 mg and then 60 mg the next (this for 2 years-ish). Low‐dose isotretinoin is not limited to old and novel dermatological conditions, but also showed promising results in the field of infertility and safety in the field of gastroenterology. Also, in good news, my only side effects so far are dry lips and ONE dry bloody nostril. Got anxiety.
2. I have heard of people taking 20mg 2/3x a week as well. For example, instead of taking a high dose of 40mg twice a day, the lower dose protocol might be 10mg, twice a week.
